JDSU / Lumentum FCD488 488nm 20mW Fiber Coupled Collimated Solid State Laser ❮ ❯ ❮ ❯ ❮ ❯ ❮ ❯ ❮ ❯ 488 nm, 20 mW CW · 1 m PM fiber with collimator · under 50 hours · 5 V supply and RS-232 control included Lightly used 488 nm solid-state laser system made by JDSU / Lumentum (model FCD488FC-020). These units are coupled to a 1 m single-mode, polarization-maintaining (SM/PM) fiber with a collimator at the end that produces the same quality beam as the free-space version. We’ve tested these and find that they perform like new: they produce the rated 20 mW output at a diode current of under 400 mA, well below the 850 mA maximum. The systems show less than 50 hours of run time, so they are essentially unused, and they produce a high-quality, stable, low-noise beam. We have several of these, so the serial number may not match the pictures. How It Works The FCD488 is a frequency-converted diode (FCD) laser with an all-in-fiber architecture. Blue light is created by a 980 nm laser diode and a frequency-doubling crystal; the crystal is temperature-stabilized by a thermoelectric cooler for optimal power and noise. One compact package holds both the optics and the control electronics, which drive the diode current and the TEC, and keep the blue output constant with closed-loop feedback from a photodiode (constant power mode). It runs from a single 5 V DC supply and has a low heat load, so it operates without a heat sink. Control and diagnostics are via RS-232 or a digital/analog interface. It was designed for OEM use and system integration. Key Features 20 mW CW at 488 nm; this unit measured 23.95 mW on an Ophir meter (see photos) 1 m SM/PM fiber with collimator: free-space beam quality where you need it Under 50 hours of run time; runs at <400 mA of the 850 mA maximum diode current Stable, low-noise TEM00 beam (M² <1.2, noise <0.5% rms) Single 5 V supply, no heat sink needed RS-232 control through the included interlock plug; two status LEDs Key Specifications Manufacturer part number (MPN) 21075557-001 (JDSU catalog no. Software & Control Note that this laser does not auto-start. To turn on the laser, connect a computer to the serial port and issue the LASER_ON (or LON) command; any serial terminal program works. A PDF copy of the user’s manual, with the full command set, is available on request. Condition Lightly used, with less than 50 hours of run time; clean, as pictured. Professionally tested and guaranteed working. Please review all listing photos; they show a representative unit, and the serial number of the unit you receive may differ.
